The Basic Life Support re-certification class, BLS class, is intended for healthcare providers and students pursuing a career in healthcare who have previously been certified in Basic Life Support, i.e. CPR for Healthcare Providers. The previous BLS certification must be an American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider certification. CPR Louisville is an American Heart Association (AHA) Training Site and all of our classes are AHA certified. This class reviews the most up to date science surrounding cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. This renewal course provides the most current updates on how to preform CPR for infants, children, and adults. This class reviews the correct BLS rescue sequence for CPR, rescue breathing, and choking. Students will also have a specific review of how to use an automatic external defibrillator (AED).

The BLS recertification class is a combination of video, discussion, and hands on practice with approved CPR equipment. After students review key concepts in BLS, CPR Louisville’s friendly and experienced instructors will lead discussions to make sure each student is successful in renewing his or her BLS certification. Once students have had a chance to review and discuss changes in the BLS algorithms, they will be provided with hands on practice sessions with our Preston manikins, Defibtech AEDs, and other training equipment. When all of the practice sessions have been completed, students will complete their skills testing and written exam. The entire BLS recertification class lasts around 4 hours in length.

After students have passed their exam and skills testing session, they will receive a BLS for Healthcare Provider certification card that will be valid for two years. Each student will receive their new card on the day of class assuming registration and payment has been received in advance.
